Vital Tags is a libre, open-source project that creates NFC tags, QR codes, and physical cards giving first responders instant access to critical medical information. It was born from personal experience living with a medical condition, and the realization that in an emergency, quick access to accurate health information shouldn’t be a privilege.
A bystander taps the NFC tag, scans the QR code, or reads the card and immediately sees what matters: allergies, medications, seizure protocol, emergency contacts. The information is available 24/7, even when the person can’t communicate. It’s privacy-focused — you control exactly what’s shared — and it works across language barriers, which matters when you’re traveling.
The project is still in early development as a hobby, but the goal is straightforward: make emergency medical care more efficient by ensuring critical health information is always at hand, and keep the whole thing free and open source so it reaches everyone regardless of economic situation or geography.
